Favorite Discs Here is a short list of some of my favorite multi-channel discs. These aren't necessarilly the absolute best discs around. In fact, I left off some pretty awesome ones! However, those listed here are all at least fairly decent and I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to them. ---Kazaam

The Beach Boys - "Pet sounds" (DVD-Audio) It's simply amazing that something that started out as a mono release could sound so rich and full in surround sound all these decades later. Just be sure to lower the channel levels for the rears! --Kazaam [Full Review]

Jamie Cullum - "Twentysomething" (SACD or DualDisc) The surround mix won't blow your socks off, but it works. The music is what really grabs me. Listen as Cullum gives a jazz twist to pop-based music such as Radiohead's "High & Dry". --Kazaam [Full Review]

E. Power Biggs - "Bach: Four Great Toccatas & Fugues" (SACD) I'm not much on classical music, but this is simply amazing! Musically, I don't find it to be all that bad and the surround mix is definitely demo quality. It's almost fun! --Kazaam [Full Review]

Black Crowes - "Freak 'N' Roll... Into The Fog" (DVD-Video) This 2005 performance at San Francisco's Fillmore is highly energetic and entertaining. The 16x9 anamorphic widescreen picture is top-notch and the DTS surround mix adds the perfect amount of ambience. --Kazaam [Full Review]

Billy Joel - "52nd Street" (SACD) Great music and great sound add up to one of the better multi-channel music discs around. "The Stranger" album is good, too; but I give the nod to "52nd Street". --Kazaam [Full Review]

Sam Cooke - "At The Copa" (SACD) This 1964 performance finds Cooke taking on not only his own hit records, such as "Twistin' The Night Away", but also showcasing his skills on other popular music of the day---be it folk or traditional. It has a nice surround mix, too! [Full Review]

Linkin Park - "Reanimation" (DVD-Audio) Good tunes if you think you'd like that rock/rap sound combined with a bit of actual singing. The surround mix is very aggressive and experimental. Plenty of good bass, too! This is always a fun disc to pull out when trying to impress friends. --Kazaam [Full Review]

Nickel Creek - "This Side" (SACD) Here is a wonderful acoustic record that was produced by Alison Krauss. The band's music often defies typical classification. Though, often it falls into the general realm of the "Newgrass" genre. Sound quality and surround mix are top-notch, too! --Kazaam [Full Review]

Alison Krauss & Union Station - "Live" (SACD) If I'm not mistaken, this is a pure DSD recording. This live performance contains many fan favorites, including Krauss' breakthrough cover of "When You Say Nothing At All." --Kazaam [Full Review]

The Polyphonic Spree - "Together We're Heavy" (DVD-Audio) Take a few members from Tripping Daisy and add about 20 new members to form an orchestra/choir that plays alternative pop/rock music. --Kazaam [Full Review]

Boyz II Men - "Boyz II Men" (DTS-CD) It seems most recent Motown albums haven't been able to surpass those from the late 1960s when the Funk Brothers worked their musical magic. However, some vocal groups, such as Boyz II Men, definitely have the talent. And this album, especially given its magical 5.1 surround treatment, is a definite contender! --Kazaam [Full Review]
