Did you know that here in Ireland strong stone walls were
used to keep out enemies?. One great example is the
massive fort of Dún Aonghas on Inis Mór, one of the
Aran Islands in Co. Galway.
Mount Everest is 8,848 metres high. The
man George Mallory was found on Mount Everest. He had
been climbing the mountain in 1924. The question remains
– Did he die on the way up or the way down?

Have animals mysterious powers? Like last
week I was building my fort and my dog started barking.
She got louder and louder. Then it started to rain. So
maybe dogs and other animals can sense trouble?
The Bermuda Triangle is from Puerto Rico
to Florida, including the sea. An aircraft, actually five
aircraft were flying over the Bermuda Triangle and twenty
seven pilots got lost. They lost track of the planes too
and they went missing….. Another aircraft was sent
to search for them and it disappeared too………STRANGE?

and Camembert.
Did you know that the normans came to
Ireland in 1169. They took over Viking cities like
Waterford, Limerick and Dublin.
Did you know that The Great Wall of China
can be seen from Outer Space? The Millennium Dome in
London and the Pyramid at Giza can also be seen from
Outer Space.
In the past some people preferred to be
deported to Australia rather than go to prison. Although
it was hard to begin life again Australia offered many
Irish people the chance to have a better life. It is hard
to believe they had that choice!

Interesting Facts
In Ireland we are famous for stew. I like stew ,
especially the meat in it. Germany is famous for their
sausages. I love sausages too. They are so tasty and I
love hotdogs with big long sausages in it –
frankfurters.
In France they are famous for cheese and
. We studied the making of cheese in our class and had a
tasting session too. We tasted Cheddar , a hard cheese
and Brie , a soft cheese on cream crackers.. I did not
like Brie .
In China they are famous for rice. They
eat 365,000 tonnes a day. I love rice.
The Great Wall of China was build in 221
BC and the first Chinese Emperor Chin Shin Huang- Ti
decided to build it to protect China from invasion by the
Mongols.
The Normans replaced the wooden walls
with stone walls when they came to Ireland in 1167 .
Limerick is an example a walled town and so is Waterford.
A dance called The Walls of Limerick was written about
these stone walls.

Did You Know?
Canals are man- made waterways. Boats on canals are
called Barges. Unlike rivers canals can go uphill. At
Christmas the bargemen working on the Grand Canal were
allowed a day off. Up to 1940 they never got any summer
holidays. The greaser was a young teenage boy who greased
the engine and also to run ahead and tell the lock-keeper
that the barge was coming.. The lock-keeper had a hard
life because the barges sailed both day and night. In
Ireland some people believed that Guinness would not
taste right if it traveled over land so they preferred it
to be transported by barges on the canals.
Aztecs by Gizzmo
The aztecs invented a chocolate drink made of coaco beans.
They used a cactus for lots of thing's like clothes, cloth, ropes, bags and mats.
VANILLA POD
The aztecs were the frist to dry the vanilla pod. They used it to flavour cholate. the pod comes from one type of orchid which opens one day of the year for a few hours. It is fully grown after 15 months

They lived in Mexico about 600 years ago.
They were there at the year of 1,402.
They built a capital city called Tenochtitlan.
The king of the Aztecs was called a Speaker.
So they had War leaders, City rulers, Nobles, Ordinary people, and the worst are slaves. The clothes showed how important you were. The Aztecs had a calendar with 13 months on it. They had names like flower, rabbit and alligator. The Spanish people finished their culture by capturing them and turning them into slaves.
The Aztecs were hunters . They hunted for rabbits, eagles, deer and more. They were fishermen too and gatherers. They moved around - they were nomads because there would not be enough animals around to last.

Music can come from any instrument. When people get together to sing and dance, this makes a band. The rain stick comes from different countries like , Chile in South America.
People in Chilean deserts use the rain stick to try to make it rain during drought.
The didgeridoo is one of the oldest instruments . It comes from Australia.
I can play the cymbals, the cabasa, the shakers , the piano, the maracas, and the glockenspiel.
Waltzing Matilda - Sabu
Waltzing means travelling from place to place learning a trade. Matilda means blankets to keep the soldiers in world war 1 warm. Banjo found the skin of a newly killed sheep. He heard the story of the shearers strike when they set fire to the woolshed killing over a hundred sheep.These events inspired Banjo to write Waltzing Matilda.
Banjo Patterson ( 1864 - 1941) was a solicitor and worked in Sydney. In 1894 he and his fiancéé Sahra Riley visited her friend. Christina Mac Pherson in Dagworth Station in Queensland. Banjo heard Christina play a tune . He liked it and thought he could put some words to it . This became Waltzing Matilda.
We learned this song in our class and we like it a lot!
