National Master Duane Rowe finished atop a strong field to take the 2005 Frederick Cameron Chess Open held at the Norman Manley Law School over the weekend.

Rowe won from a field of 70 players including seven National Master. He finished unbeaten with 5 points from 6 games after securing a last round draw with National Master Robert Wheeler.

Second place went to Wheeler who ended on 4.5 points, while third was shared between National Masters Jomo Pitterson, Geoffrey Byfield and Russel Porter, who ended on 4 points each

The section for players with a Jamaica Chess Federation (JCF) rating under 1800 was won by Hakim Buchanan of Ardenne High, who finished on a perfect score of 6 points from 6 games. Second Place was shared by Melisha Smith of Queens High and Lucien Rowe of Glenmuir, who both ended on 5 points.

The tournament was sponsored by Pulse Investments and the Norman Manley Law School.

The next scheduled JCF open chess tournament is the New Years Open, scheduled to take place on January 14 and 15, 2006.

PRE-REGISTRATION
This will be possible from Saturday, 26th November, 2005 to Thursday, 8th December, 2005 (4 pm).
Players may pre-register with:

2. the President (IAN WILKINSON) at 10 Swallowfield Road, Kingston 5 (960-4798),

Please Note that Players who pre-register will get a discount of $200.00 on the entry fees indicated below. Pre-registration involves the payment of the required fees and the completion of the JCF Entry Form.

REGISTRATION AND SCHEDULE
Saturday December 10 – Day One
Starting at 8 am – 8:45 am


Any player arriving after 8:45 am on day one, can still register but will not be paired for the first round. Late entries will not be permitted after round four.

DAY ONE (Saturday 10th December, 2005)

OPENING CEREMONY: 9:00 to 9:15 am

ROUND ONE: 9:30 am to 12:30 pm

NB: Half (½) point bye available only for first round and will only be allowed after proper registration.

“PROPER REGISTRATION” means paying the relevant fees in addition to completing the registration form within the time stipulated.

Students/Juniors/Women - $600.00

NB: All players must be paid-up members of the Jamaica Chess Federation.

Membership fees – Adults - $2,000 per year.
Juniors- $1,000 per year

Section 2) AMATEUR – Restricted to Entrants with a Jamaica Chess Federation Rating Less than 1800 or Unrated

AMATEUR SECTION: 1st - $5,000 plus trophy

Other prizes will be awarded for 2nd and 3rd place in each section, best Under 10, 12 and 14 year-old players, best rural player, best female player, best junior and best new player.
