PRESS RELEASE

DB&G SPONSORS CLARENDON’S FIRST MAJOR CHESS TOURNEY

Financial managers Dehring, Bunting and Golding (DB&G), have partnered with the Clarendon Chess Association (CCA) and the Jamaica Chess Federation (JCF) to stage Clarendon’s first major chess tourney, the 2003 Clarendon Chess Open. The tournament, which is the first major chess tournament to be held outside of Kingston and St. Andrew in over 10 years, is scheduled to take place on October 4th and 5th at the Glenmuir High School Auditorium in May Pen.

DB&G’s decision to sponsor the sport of chess, is seen by the Jamaica Chess Federation as another of the many excellent strategic moves by DB&G, which have kept them ahead of their competitors.

As sponsors of the event, DB&G through their May Pen Branch will be covering the cost of over twenty thousand dollars ($20,000) worth of prizes. Prizes will be awarded in
both the Open and Novice sections to the 1st to 4th place finishers, the best female player and the best player from
Clarendon. A prize for the best-unrated player will also be up for grabs.

The tournament is open to all chess players across the island, and will see the playing of six rounds, three on each day. Registration takes place from 8:30 am to 9:30 am on Saturday, with the first round scheduled to start at 9:35 am.

The staging of the Clarendon Chess Open and the establishment of the CCA is an integral move on
the part of the JCF in its effort to spread the sport of chess throughout Jamaica.
