Academic History

Here is a summary of my l-o-n-g journey from being a little kid at KSM elementary to being a big kid at SFU. (You can click on the images to connect to the institution's website.)

Sir Charles Kingsford Smith Elementary
(Vancouver, 1986-1994)

This is where I learned to read, to write, to multiply and do long division (which I've long since forgotten with the permitted use of calculators), to "play" (more like screech) the violin, to swing from the monkey bars and subsequently fall off without breaking any bones, to scrape my knees on every inch of the playground's concrete while playing hopscotch, and to negotiate a trade of my mushy whole wheat deviled-egg sandwich for a friend's cheese-and-crackers. Also learned a wide variety of sex jokes and cuss words (yes, parents, this is what your cute lil' kiddies are learning) and how to be sent to the principal's office with no parole...

Loved seventh grade, absolutely hated sixth. Was big-headed library monitor, computer monitor, kindergarten monitor (in gr. 7! i.e. kindergarten babysitter =D), traffic patroller, student council secretary, writer for KSM gazette, editor of 5th grade newspaper, president of one-year environmental-friendly club. Participated in "intramural" sports (incl. b-ball & floor hockey), team won recess volleyball playoffs! But gosh, this was all so long ago...

David Thompson Secondary
(Vancouver, 1994-1999)

As even agreed by the faculty, my graduating class of '99 was one of the most academically competitive, overachieving bunch of teens you'd ever come across in an east side Vancouver school. Pretty scary...

Sure, many of the teachers were awesome, but I wouldn't say they pushed us to the extreme max. It was probably the bizarre overall inner drive of the entire class that made everything so complicated.

Grade 12 was good, but loved 11th grade the best and hated 9th the most. Was member of library, bookroom, french, jeopardy clubs. Involved in strings (violin), "club succs" (french peer tutoring), new faces (gr. 8 orientation leader), technolympics. Made honor roll and principal's list!

Concentrated heavily on the sciences (maybe a little too heavily =P), and did career prep in computer sciences before running away like a chicken with its head cut off following a work experience placement with a 'puter company that soon became obsolete (but, hehheh, so did the companies several of my buddies were placed in! go figure) and before switching to health sciences. Job shadowed a speech pathologist and worked in the City Hall daycare -- where, I might add, I was made to pretend that I was a mountain a whole week long (don't ask!).

Simon Fraser University
(Burnaby BC, 1999-present)

This is where I've been wreaking havoc for the past 3 years! This is also where I've lost my long-division skills and sanity, and where I've become well-versed in the art of procrastination and paranoia, and discovered the miracle wonders of the bottle.

Currently majoring in biological sciences (more complex-sounding than just "biology", eh?), specializing in cell and molecular biology. Was double majoring in kinesiology for awhile, but panicked a few months ago when I realized how much longer I'd be stuck at SFU, so downgraded that to a simple minor.

Been involved with various SFSS (Simon Fraser Student Society), CAC (Canadianized Asian Club), and Catholic Society activities. Webmaster and active member of the SFU Pre-Medical Society. Proud exec member (incl. secretary and currently president) of the BSU (Biology Student Union), which throws the best socials in the whole wide school. =P
