Thailand has a wide variety of fascinating natural and cultural attraction to excite and thrill visitors from around the world. In the North, the forested highland features the jungle clad mountains inhabited by colourful hill tribes while the Northeast is the land of past civilizations. In the South, their life the world's most beautiful islands under year round sunshine, while the central region covers a large plane of fertile and suitable for agriculture the rice bowl of Thailand. Before traveling to any part of the country, the visitors are advised to visit several places of interest in Bangkok first. Most visitors to Thailand try to spend as little time as possible in its polluted, congested capital, and not without reason. A city of 8 million people (although unofficial estimates range as high as 12 million, especially during the dry season when flocks of country folk migrate to the city in search of work) located on the banks of the Chao Phaya River, Bangkok is an odd combination of Dawn tucked in among the thrusting office and condominium towers that are increasingly coming to dominate the city's skyline. The wise traveler will spend as little time as possible in Bangkok. also known as the "City of Angels", using it mainly as a base to plan and organize excursions to other parts of the country. If one does happen to get stuck in the city of longer than expected, it needn't be an entirely negatives and agencies ranging from world-class fitness clubs and golf courses to rock-climbing walls for those wanting to sharpen their skills before heading on down to the actual cliff faces in Krabi or up to Chiang Mai. Bangkok is also an ideal place from which to explore the nearby provinces of Kanchanaburi, Lopburi and Nakhon Nayok-- all of which offer opportunities for easily arranged one or two day trips for kayaking and mountain biking, among other things.
