| The distillery is located on the island of Orkney, near Kirkwall. Orkney is an archipelago of some 70 islands off the northernmost tip of Scotland. Thirteen islands are inhabited with an overall population of around 19,000. Strangely enough, this northernmost distillery is built atop a hill so water has to be pumped up to the distillery rather than collected at the bottom of a valley for other distilleries. However, one look at the spectacular view and landscape that surrounds this distillery will be enough to understand the inspiration that goes into every bottle of Highland Park. |
| For two centuries the Orkney Isles have produced a full-flavoured, single malt Scotch Whisky. Made from the best barley malted over burning peat from the distillery-owned Hobbister Moor; merged with waters from its own source, the Cattie Maggie spring. A typical bottling can combine the best elements of classic Island and Highland malts. Many believe the unique character of Highland Park 12 Year Old Single Malt Whisky comes from the local peat beds which have absorbed the salt spray of centuries and which impart a rooty, heathery quality to the whisky. Only a carefully measured amount is used to fire the kiln for each malting. |
