Deanston Distillery was established in 1965-66. It occupies facilities, however, that date back to 1785, which were utilised as textile mills until the early 1960s. The original facilities were designed by Richard Arkwright, inventor of the 'Spinning Jenny' and who was recognised as one of the 'Fathers of the Industrial Revolution.'
Located about two miles from the town of Doune, home of the Doune Castle ruins. The distillery itself sits on the banks of the pure and soft River Teith. The supply of good water from River Teith nearby contributed to the reason for the conversion of Deanston Mill to a whisky distillery.

Five mountains dominate the area surrounding. These hard granite mountains softens the water, and the heather clad moorlands impart a distinctive flavour and character with a hint of peat to Deanston whiskies.
Only unpeated malt is used in the production of Deanston single malt. According to the Deanston Distillery, any peat that the palate might detect will come from the water supply that contains all of the necessary peat needed. Deanston whiskies are clean and nutty with a malty sweetness.
