Life in Huizhou
Huizhou is a medium-sized city in Guangdong provinces. It's some 70km away from Hong Kong by road. If you want to find out it's location please click here.
Huizhou is my father's hometown. My father has long been hoping me to go to Huizhou. I refused to do so.
So it's amazing for me to go to Huizhou to work. When I was employed by Glorious Sun Enterprises Ltd., I knew that I need to travel to PRC occasionally. But later on, the company changed his policy and I had to worked in Huizhou from Monday to Friday.
Frankly speaking, life in Huizhou is not that bad as you might imagine. I lived in a 700 ft hostel with 1 or 2 senior managers. It's a quite place and the view is quite good out there. And I can still watch television of some Hong Kong channels. (Though for some situations, eg politics, Taiwan issues, the lines are cut, and that makes me feel that HK is still have a higher level of freedom) And the living standard is not high compared with more developed cities in China. So it's good as I am not rich and I really need to save some money, for furthering my study or enterperneurship.

My colleagues in China, we are in the research and development team.
My collegues are all very kind and nice to me. They are pure, smart, hard-working and competitive. They have great confidence on their future, as well as on the goverment's management ability. As I was coming back and forth from Hong Kong and Huizhou everyweek, I could really feel the difference on the atmosphere. Hong Kong by that time was suffering from many problems, high unemployment rate, deflation, etc. I am sure I won't forget them and the times when we lived, played and worked together.
Nevertheless, it's one thing to stay and work for a year or two, it's another thing to work forever. At last I felt that it's time for me to have a change and so I resigned on October, 2003. Definitely, I gain a lot during my two years in Glorious Sun, I learnt about tools like Lotus Notes, VBA, SQL Server. I was actively involved in some projects, going through the software development cycle. And most important is, I have the so called "China experience" and I believe that it's a critical part in my career path.
