Lotus Notes and Me
Two years ago, I was looking for a job, just like most of the other fresh graduates in Hong Kong. At that time, I needed to make one decision, and it might be one of the most important decisions I had ever made: plan my career path.
Although I could be a marketing/management trainee, I finally stayed in the IT field in spite of the burst of the IT bubble. I had high expectation on it. And I believe it's still true for today.
Lotus Notes!!??
At that time, most of the people around me were looking for stable jobs in big corp like those offered by HSBC. I did have a few interviews too, and even got into the third round in Accenture Consulting, which was one of the companies I really hoped to join. But I just didn't get an offer. In some sense I must admit that it was really a BIG failure for me. Finally, I got an offer from Glorious Sun, and as a programmer in the Research and Developement team.
Since then, I was working with the Lotus Notes / Domino. Interesting to say, I really knew nothing about Lotus Notes or Workflow Management before.
I am now a Certified Lotus Professional in Application Development and I guess I will also be Certified in System Administration soon as well. Although Microsoft Exchange server may still be the market leader (research shows that Exchange holds 32% while Notes holds 25% in the groupware arena), I just love Lotus Notes much more. It provides the most complete messaging and collaborative solution to the market. With the help of this tool, I got many chances to co-operate with different pofessionals in my company by designing or even re-engineering their workflow processes. In addition, I like to be different, being a non-java, and a non-Visual Basic programmer!
I cannot post the source of my work here, but I will let you see some interfaces of my current or previous works, if I have time. Hehe...
