Age of Empires 2 is very unlike The Sims. Instead of concentrating on family values, and whether Wanda will get to the loo on time, one wrong move could mean the end of the game - and your empire. The aim of the game is to defeat your opponents through warfare. You start with a town centre and some villagers. You collect wood, food, gold and stone, all essential to make new units (like Archers, Cavalry etc.) Then, after gathering an army, you can go and attack another civilization's town.
