General Class Objectives

Syllabus Worksheets Work to Date

Picture Completion

Goal:  The student will practice color blending with colored pencils trying to obtain a perfect match while exhibiting a realistic or creative expansion of their color magazine photo.

Materials:

9” X 12” white paper               white glue                       scratch white paper
Student provided color magazine photo approximately 2” min. to 6” max.
4 different colored pencil sets per table

Steps:

1.  Bring a colored magazine photo to class.

2.  Glue the photo almost anywhere, but NOT the exact center.  Be sure to leave a minimum of 2" to the edge.

3.  LIGHTLY continue the photo to about 2" beyond the photo's edges in all directions.

4.  Carefully FIRST match the color on scratch paper, and then continue the photo’s colors at a single place.  Be as exact as possible, as the assignment’s goal is to match colors.

5.  The major thrust of your efforts should be to match the colors and shapes already seen in the photo.

YOUR GRADE is based on:

·correct use of time        ·accurate color matching

·creative use of space       ·correct and supportive behavior around your classmates

an  "A"       colors match correctly, the edges of the colors away from the photo are diffused
pencil marks do NOT show, or if they do they follow the photo's subject's contours
The photo's subject has been continued in a believable manner

a "B"          overall it is good work, some marks may show however
some colors may not be done well enough before moving on to another area
the time could have been spent better.

a "C"          average student work,  some marks show, time was spent fairly well
too much effort was put in to areas that do not matter.

a "D"         the student managed to get a thing or possible two correct
wasted time, areas colored in with little regard to the "real" color

an "F", failure of the project
the work was carelessly done with little regard to the actual color or shapes present in the photo
time was wasted, plain and simply wasted.  Student did not respond to the teacher's help correctly
student gave up and did not ask and listen to help from anyone
