To Draw a Building in 1-Point Perspective
1.
Draw a vanishing point, VP, on a horizon line,
HL, somewhere near the middle of the paper, but not at the
middle. (It gets very boring when things are smack-dab in the
middle of things)
2.
Draw a rectangle,
,
parallel, //, to the paper's edges.
3.
Connect the
's
corners to the VP, without drawing through the
's
front face.
4.
End the
's
side by drawing a line // to the paper's left and right edges. End
the
's
top, or bottom, by drawing a line // to the paper's top and bottom.
5.
Add doors and windows to each building's front and side. All the
time singing my little song; "Middle, Top, Bottom . . ." over and over
until completed. Remember that in step 2 we kept all additional
lines // to the paper's edges, this is a theme that is always repeated
in perspective drawings.
6.
Any additional item added to a Perspective drawing MUST go to the
correct VP OR it must be //. . . PERIOD!!
7.
Your grade depends on correctly added items.
Should any items be place incorrectly it WILL affect your grade.
It is better to do only what is assigned, earn the grade, and then play.
You may always resubmit your work for a higher grade if desired, but
students rarely delete items that pulled their grade down.
*
Take the time to do the best job possible. Don't use any straight edge to draw against, rather use one to check to see that your work is accurate. Remember that your grade is based on "Freehand drawing" of straight edges for 1 Point Perspective buildings. 3 to 5 buildings drawn to the VP without the construction lines showing.
