Remote sensing
Weather radars are powerful tools in studying weather
phenomena and in short-term weather forecasting. They can also be utilized, for
example, in estimation of rainfall over areas with low rain gauge coverage.
Take
a look at the Météo-France
Eastern Caribbean Composite Radar Images New images are available every
three hours. Different colours indicate different echo intensities (reflectivities
or rain fall rates). The following navigational tools may be used: Précédente
= previous, Arrêt = stop, Suivante = next. More Caribbean radar images
(e.g. radar
at San Juan, Puerto Rico) can be found through the Radar
Images page of the www.caribweather.net
portal.
Four new Doppler weather radars will be installed in the Caribbean region
(in Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago,
Barbados and Belize) in near future.
These radars will complement the existing radar network and thus improve the
observation and forecasting capabilities of the Caribbean National
Meteorological and Hydrological Services considerably. Read the Caribbean
Community (CARICOM) Secretariat press releases 144/2000,
