Climate observations and data rescue

Detection of climatic variations and trends require reliable observations over long period of time. Observations are needed e.g. in validating model-simulated inter-annual weather patterns and regional trends. There is a global need for better climate data coverage. This is the case also in the Caribbean. Learn more from a regional action plan for Central America and the Caribbean (MS Word, 2.4 MB).

Historical observations data are highly important in setting the baseline for the later changes and variations in the climate. Without the baseline it is not possible to tell anything about the trends. There are a lot of historical data in the Caribbean still only in paper media which are in great danger of being destroyed unless soon digitized into climate data bases. Rescuing this data will give additional boost to the regional climate modeling and prediction. Take a look at the Data Rescue page of the SIDS-Caribbean Project for more information on data rescue in the Caribbean!
