What is Seddonism?
Seddonism was advertised as high density mediocrity avoidance. It is based around items, sketches, chat, and the best music (both old and new), and was very much fuelled by the teams personalities. It is very upbeat, both in speech and musical content, since to many listeners it was their (late) breakfast show. It was formatted so that the same thing would be happening at the same time every day, and something entertaining would be happening at regular intervals.
See the listing in Exepose here.

The People
Mark Seddon. The most radio experienced of all the team, the show was very much my baby. Although I did all of the scriptwriting and production and the ideas were my own, the team injected a lot of energy and variety.
Chris Patterson is a friend of mine from university, and only joined URE towards the end of his second year, but he works well because he is on the same wavelength as me, so knows exactly where an idea is going, and we manage a good partnership, without him becoming a Lard figure, or yes man.
Kirsty ODriscol is a first year, and was the random element of the show,  stopping us from becoming too script reliant, helping to avoid alienating female listeners, (and creating an added interest for the male ones). By the end of the RSL it was apparent that she was very much our surprise success.

Features and Material
The features were created and written by me, with some relatively new ideas, and others which had come some way in evolving. The show had a regular format, so that every day at the same time the same thing should be happening. So, every sketch item had 10 different scripts, one for every day. This also ensured that all of the ideas had to be quite strong ones to begin with. This, combined with a regular bed/jingle for each feature aimed to give some sense of familiarity with the show in a short period. We would also have regular chats on air, so that the audience could get to know us. Episodes such as Kirsty flashing at a night-club for charity created a real buzz about the show. With the exception of some parody songs, everything was done live, creating an energy and a what next? factor.

Outline of Show:

Big jingle
Often a parody of a film or TV show

Introduction (preceded by a
rant)

Marks Birthdays
I was tired of the celebrity birthday thing that is so often spouted on commercial stations, so I did a similar thing, but with twisted versions of the truth.

Interviews From The Vaults
A sketch item, presenting a fictitious interview with a historical figure.

TV Trivia Triathlon
Our quiz- after identifying a TV theme to qualifying, the contestant must answer 2 out 3 questions correctly to win a pizza from a local pizza delivery place.

The Mark Appeal
A comic charity appeal for something for me. (See sample script)

Todays Charity Case
Chris item. He takes a topical story from newspaper and presents it in a humorous way, using the catchphrase ...but not in that voice.

Love Cafe
A pre-written comedy item, either of several short dedications, or a love letter. This is followed by...
Kirstys Hate Cafe
Kirsty rants about something that has been bothering her, or hits the streets to ask people what bothers them. An unpredictable item, on occasion we have had a go to Kirsty if she hasnt found something to be irritated by.

Beatles Bit
A sketch item, where we look at how the Beatles might have come up with the ideas for their most famous songs.

Zoowatch
A sketch item that follows the problems with the fictitious Exeter Zoo.
