Max runs into Zack when a private detective named
Volgelsang tells her one of her siblings is in town. He tells her this sibling had a
barcode removed at a tattoo parlor in China Town and tells her the barcode
number. It's Zack (played by William Gregory Lee). He says he'll tell her which
parlor if she shows up at a certain location with 2 grand. She shows up, only to find
Volgelsang dead and Lydecker's goons showing up.
Logan tracks down the parlor, the owner tells her how to find zack's apartment, and she breaks in. Max and Zack's reunion is short-lived because Lydecker shows up. After a brief rumble, they escape to safety. Zack tells Max she has to leave Seattle. when she refuses, he says he can't be responsible for her if she won't listen to him.
Zack shows up later because he had been wounded trying to help Brin. They rescue Brin and Zack disappears again (see Brin's page). Lydecker later floods Seattle with wanted posters of Max. To save her Zack turns himself in. Back at Manticore Lydecker tries and get information on the others out of Zack. Nothing worked so he implanted a small transmitter in Zack's neck and staged an escape. Zack contacted Max for help. Zack found the transmitter and Logan made a global Eyes Only hack to warn the others they'd been compromised. Tinga called Zack asking for help and he and Max went to rescue her.
When Tinga later returned for her husband and son Zack said he wouldn't help, but showed up anyway. When Tinga agreed to turn herself in (see Tinga's page), Zack said it was a trap and walked away. However, he showed up anyway and helped Max rescue Case.
Zack and Max were captured trying to take down Manticore (see Krit & Syl's page). To keep the doctors from harvesting her organs, Zack shot himself in the head to give Max his heart. Before he does he tells her "Fight them Maxie, promise me you'll fight them."
