| REFLECTION The Technology Facilitator's role for Standard III is to focus on the state core content curriculum stantards for students, paying special attention to the integration of student technoloy goals (NETS for Students) with the subject area goals. As Facilitator, I must lead and assist teachers with advice on curriculum units and lesson plans. The teachers can then integrate productivity tools, research tools, and media-based tools into a variety of settings to support student learning and stimulate the use of higher order thinking skills. I have included a two page Microsoft Publisher document I created to advertise Microsoft Publisher as an example of the kind of project students could do to showcase their use of this authoring tool. Before students begin to use the Internet for research, they must be taught how to evaluate the sites they find, to see if these sites are user friendly, have accurate and timely information, and are reliable sources. The small group Evaluating Websites Lesson Plan I created for elementary students is utilized to help children focus on these details before doing a project that combines Language Arts and Science where each child describes their fantasy pet. This plan to evaluate websites can also be used three or four additonal times throughout the year as a warm-up for other projects and subjects. The six Social Studies Internet Projects I describe utilize a graphic organizer, an Excel spreadsheet, a database, and a Power Point to help children learn about various units as they organize and present their material. Audio and video are extremely powerful ways to present information that children have researched. My Digital Media Project is a two to three week step-by-step unit on Explorers that utilizes a graphic organizer for research, a word processing program for writing a script, Audacity, an audio recording program, clips from United Streaming to introduce the topic for the student film, and Windows Movie Maker to create the film. This exciting product will show competency in many student core content and technology standards. If you would like a copy of the movie I created as a model project about Ponce de Leon please email me and I will send it to you. |
