Practice Day & Time

All of the clubs practice on Sundays evenings from 3:00pm to 5:00pm or 5:00pm to 7:00pm.

Practice Location

The Saskatoon YMCA at the corner of 22nd Street and Idywyld Drive in Saskatoon.

Practice Sessions

We have 2 sessions per year.  Each session is approximately between 12 and 14 weeks long depending on the pool schedule.  They are as follows:

Session 1:  September 16th –December 16th, 2007 .  You can find more information in the CALENDAR section at the left.

Session 2:  January 6th – April 13th, 2008.  You can find more information in the CALENDAR section at the left.

How to Register:

We strongly encourage everyone to register prior to the first day listed above by mail as our program can fill up.  You can register at the front desk of the YMCA at any time.  Please be aware that both time slots have limited room in the classes and when they are full, no more registrations will be taken.

The benefits to doing your lifesaving and lifeguard training as a member of Sask-Rescue are many including:

  • Individual training: If you need more time to complete an award, it’s available.  If you are able to complete an award quicker, you do.  If you need help with a specific skill, you get it.

  • Continuous Training:  Those members that stay members year after year become experts in the field of aquatic lifesaving & lifeguarding.  Their skills and abilities far surpass those that once certified in an award don’t continue to practice and learn.

  • Family Opportunities:  With our practices being at the Saskatoon YMCA, the swim lessons being offered, the games room and fitness rooms being open during practice, the entire family can now involved in swimming and exercise at the same time.

  • Employment:  Part time and full time employment as a lifeguard and instructor with any of Saskatoon’s, Saskatchewan’s and Canada’s aquatic facilities.  Our club is recognized as one of the most demanding and successful training organizations in Saskatchewan.  The fact that our coaches have won the Saskatchewan Provincial Lifeguard Championships 13 years out of the last 15 along with the 2006 Manitoba Provincial Lifeguard Championships probably has something to do with that.

  • Leadership Skills:  Opportunities to learn and practice leadership skills that have far-reaching implications beyond that of just in the aquatic environment.  Many of our members, especially those who continue on to the lifeguard club, have indicated that the leadership and group work skills they learned in Sask-Rescue has continued to help them in other areas as they move through post-secondary training and careers.

  • Friendships:  Friendships that will last a lifetime.  This is one of those immeasurable benefits that only a member driven club can give.  As with any team and group of individuals that work together for a long period of time and doing things that all of them enjoy, they are able to trust and rely on each other for more than just help with a patient removal.
