GENERAL EXPECTATIONS

The following expectations apply to all members of the Sask-Rescue Lifesaving & Lifeguard Club equally, regardless of age.

  1. Act in a professional manner at all times during practices, competitions, at the work place and as a member of the general public.

  2. When working with other agencies like the City of Saskatoon, YMCA or YWCA, University of Saskatchewan, etc. maintain a high standard of professionalism and leadership at those workplaces.  These members are expected to do everything possible to support such organizations and their workplace expectations.

  3. Show consideration and respect for other members, the general public, etc at all times.  Members should always be concerned for how their actions are perceived by others, especially by people who are not members of the club.

  4. Accept full responsibility for their actions and their effects on others.

  5. Recognize that a mistake is a learning opportunity and to learn from it.  Members should never give up, regardless of the circumstances.

  6. Accept feedback from their coach and other members and act on it immediately.  Members are also expected to give feedback to other members.

  7. Bring all of their required manuals and note-taking materials to each practice and to be on time and in the appropriate area.

  8. Be professional and responsible during practices.  Members are reminded that while it is okay to have fun and to enjoy the practice, any member who becomes irresponsible during a practice will be explaining him/herself to the Head Coach.

  9. Follow the coaches directions at all times.  The coaches are in complete charge during the practice.

  10. Not waste time with negative comments about anything at anytime.  People who are negative or say negative things about others do not support the general teamwork goals of our club and will not be tolerated.

  11. Participate in any fundraising activities that the club holds.

ATTENDANCE POLICY

  1. All club members are expected to be on time for every practice.  This means changed and ready to practice on the pool deck at the start of practice.  When members arrive late, it makes everyone’s job harder.

  2. With the Learn to Swim, Junior Lifesaving, Lifesaving, Senior Lifesaving & Junior Lifeguard clubs, all members are expected to attend every practice for their own benefit.  If a member misses a practice, they are responsible for the information that they have missed.  Members who miss practices will probably not be tested as soon as the others as they will not have completed certain pre-requisites.

  3. Lifeguard club members are expected to have perfect attendance.  If a lifeguard club member must miss a practice for any reason, they must contact their coach prior to the practice, preferably at the practice prior.  Lifeguard club members are allowed to miss a maximum of one practice per month under reasonable circumstances.  School, work, tired, etc are not considered reasonable.  If other commitments are getting in the way of being part of this club, the member should re-evaluate which priorities they are going to have.

  4. Any Lifeguard club member who misses a practice without contacting their coach prior or misses more than one practice in a month or in a row will likely be cut from the club.   A large part of our reputation is based on skilled & practiced lifeguards.  A lifeguard who is not practicing regularly cannot reasonably expect to uphold this reputation and will not be allowed to be a member.

COMPETITIONS EXPECTATIONS

  1. Club members are expected to act with professional behavior throughout all competitions.

  2. Members are expected to help and support other competitors, the competition volunteers and coordinators in any way possible.

  3. Members are expected to act responsibly during the social activities.  Enjoy yourselves but do not get out of control

  4. If you are under the legal age, you will not consume alcohol at any time.  If you are in a room where alcohol is being consumed and there is no coach present to vouch for you, it will automatically be assumed that you consumed alcohol and you will be removed from the club.

  5. All club members are under the direct control of the Head Coach at all times.

  6. All members that are under the age of 18 must have their parents sign the competition registration & release form before they will be allowed to go to any event as a member of the club.

  7. Any member who is unable to act responsibly at a competition will be immediately sent home.  (By bus, if necessary)

DISCIPLINARY PROCEDURES

  1. Any club member and/or coach that is not following the rules & regulations of the Sask-Rescue Club will receive a written warning from the Head Coach.

  2. The written warning will identify the problem areas, methods and solutions to use in improving those problem areas and the period of time given to make such improvements.

  3. If the problem areas have not been improved by the member in question in the period of time given, the Head Coach may take one or more of the following courses of action:

    1. Suspend the member permanently from the club.

    2. Suspend the member from the club for a specified period of time.

    3. Allow the member to remain with the guarantee of suspension upon any further infractions.

RATIONALE

The rationale behind the high level of expectations that our club has is the professional responsibilities that lifesavers and lifeguards have towards others and themselves.  Our club members have a long-standing reputation of professional conduct and responsible behavior and we intend to keep it that way.
