Lacson’s Expose’: Like Jueteng-gate but with different characters, says party-list solons

Party-list Representatives Renato Magtubo of the Partido ng Manggagawa and JV Bautista of Sanlakas respectively today asserted that “it is not impertinent to assume that the allegations made by Senator Panfilo Lacson and First Gentleman Mike Arroyo against each other are true”.

In a privilege speech yesterday, Sen. Ping Lacson linked Arroyo to money laundering. Meanwhile, the administration has accused Lacson as the personification of narco-politics.

PM Rep. Magtubo said, “The public will not be surprised if both are to be found guilty of the charges railed against them. It is not hard to imagine Mike Arroyo as a wicked version of Incredible Hulk and Lacson as the Devil Incarnate”.

“Hence, if government wants to maintain its credibility, the imperative is not to simply dismiss the Lacson expose’ – as Malacanang wants the people to do – but to dig into its details. The subject of the probe must be the expose’ not the whistleblower, even if the disclosure was made by the Devil himself,” the party-list solon and labor leader added.

Rep. Bautista, meanwhile, asserted, “this expose is comparable to – or maybe even bigger than – Jueteng-gate. The only difference is that Chavit Singson was a close friend of the deposed Estrada while Lacson is the archenemy of the incumbent Macapagal-Arroyo”.

Bautista added, “The political color of Lacson’s expose is obvious: his presidential ambitions. But his not-so-hidden motive should be regarded as secondary as compared to the beef of the expose, in the same way as the credibility of Chavit was deemed subordinate in the Jueteng-gate scandal”.

Both solons demand an investigation by the House and Senate into the Lacson expose’. Bautista called on Congress to “dig deeper with the same passion as it displayed during the Jueteng-gate expose’ especially since the accused is no other than the President’s husband”.

Magtubo concluded, “the people should not be made to choose between Ping Lacson and Mike Arroyo because a choice between the lesser among two evils is to pick between Hell and Purgatory. For a total cleansing of government, Congress should investigate into the Lacson expose in aid of the enactment of political reforms that would deter corruption in government”.
