Sanlakas Rep. J.V. Bautista is a human rights lawyer and a staunch advocate of social reforms. Prior to his election as Sanlakas Representative, he was Commissioner of Bar Discipline in the Integrated Bar of the Philippines. He was National Spokesperson of the IBP House of Delegates in 1997 to 1999, servicing concurrently as President of the IBP Nueva Ecija Chapter. He teaches law at the Araullo University College of Law in Cabanatuan City. Sanlakas Rep. J.V. Bautista was Chief Legal Counsel of the Task Force Detainees of the Philippines (TFDP), Legal Counsel of Lila Filipina (Task Force Filipino Comfort Women), Director of the Public Interest Law Center, and Member of the Free Legal Assistance Group (FLAG). He served as Senior Legislative Staff Officer at the Office of Senator Wigberto E. Taņada. He was Chairman of the Peoples Law Enforcement Board (PLEB) of his hometown of Guimba, Nueva Ecija. During his student days, Rep. J.V. Bautista was a prominent student leader, having been National President of the College Editors Guild of the Philippines (CEGP), secretary-general of the League of Filipino Students (LFS), and Managing Editor of the Philippine Collegian of the University of the Philippines. Sanlakas Rep. J.V. Bautista finished his A.B. Journalism at the U.P. Institute of Mass Communications and his LI.B. at the U.P. College of Law. He was a Parvin Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University.
