MILITANT SOLONS TO FELICIANO COMMISSION, SENATORS: Don’t play lawyer to the government

MILITANT party-list groups Partido ng Manggagawa (PM) and Sanlakas today stood at odds over the way senators and members of the Feliciano Commission have been conducting their investigation to the “OPERATION GREEN BASE” aired by disgruntled young military officers and said that the two investigating bodies should refrain from acting like lawyers of the government.

“The Feliciano Commission is a Fact-Finding Committee but with the way things are going, this commission is not serving its supposed mission. Instead, some of its members like its chief counsel Atty. Mario Ongkiko seemed to have lost his sanity by playing like a lawyer to the President of the republic,” said Sanlakas Rep. JV Bautista.

“What this commission must do is to listen to the complaints of the mutineers, who were there at the hearing as Commission’s witnesses. Manner of the investigation is questionable when they allowed Atty. Ongkiko to cross-examine and prosecute the witnesses. This would simply make the commission appear as an incredible and biased investigating body,” Rep. Bautista added.

GO BACK TO THE REAL ISSUES

PM and Sanlakas also raised fear that the on-going investigations may just water-down the real issue of the mutineers since investigating bodies present are dealing with “insignificant issues.”

“What’s the sense of probing the life-style and businesses of Lt. Trillanes? Was there logic in scolding him for allegedly being disrespectful to the president? Even saying that the mutiny is not spontaneous is completely immaterial,” PM Rep. Renato Magtubo asserted.

Magtubo exclaimed, “We’re not talking here of decency in speaking but of mutineers’ claim that there is “indecency in governance.” If the Feliciano Commission can’t grasp this simple reason, go and replace the Cardinal in lecturing good manners.”

“To discredit the truth, it seems that investigators will employ all illogical means. What we are witnessing today are investigators who are unwilling to lend an ear to the accusations of the witnesses. Needless to say, they are denying the public the right to know what is really the truth,” Magtubo added.

WHITEWASH COMMISSION

Rep. Bautista stressed, “We’re right ever since that there is a need to create an Independent Truth Commission to investigate the accusations and actions of the mutineers instead of letting the investigation run by peers of biased politicians or by a commission, which was just created by the principal accused. It’s a mockery to the conscience of the law.”

The two militant Congressmen added that the direction being tracked by the Feliciano Commission will show proof that it is not a Fact Finding Committee but a “Whitewash Committee” designed as an ally into what they doubt a “grand conspiracy” to disprove the allegations of the young soldiers.
