Sailor Mars (Rei) is the third Scout to join the group. Rei attends to her grandfather's temple and trains to be a priestess some day. She meditates often and turns to a sacred fire in the temple for guidance. Sailor Mars's temper is as hot as the fire she hurls at enemies. This leads to frequent arguments between Rei and Serena for two reasons: Rei questions the leadership ability of Serena, and both of them have the hots for Darien. Very impatient, Rei seldom appreciates the antics of Serena and corrects her mistakes in a rather derogatory manner. Although they fight like a married couple, Rei and Serena are good friends. Don't be deceived; if Serena is under duress, Rei will always be there for her. Sailor Mars is a pyromaniac's dream. With the power of fire, one would suspect that the user's strength would increase with anger, and this is exactly the case with Sailor Mars. Her various fire-elemental attacks have the power to paralyze, entrap, or just plain incinerate enemies. Those who incite the wrath of Mars will go up in flames.
Sailor Mars is my (Sailor Loulis is the I in this article) least favorite Scout (Sailor Buben has the complete opposite opinion of her). Some say that she has the best leadership ability of the five Sailor Scouts, but I disagree. While she does have very strong initiative and good instincts, she criticizes others destructively (especially Sailor Moon); this is something that a good leader simply cannot do. Rei also has the tendency to jump into arguments that she is not initially part of, especially if Serena is involved, and butting in is one of my biggest pet peeves. I will say, however, that Rei's arguments with Serena are almost always comical. The cartoonists do a good job of inserting puffs of smoke, bolts of lightning, and floating skulls when Rei and Serena argue. Just get one more person into the fight and you'd have the Three Stooges. Both Sailor Buben and myself find Sailor Mars's high heels very intriguing. There's just something about high heels as part of combat attire that turns us on.
Sailor Buben adds: Is it just the high heels? I think not. She's hot!
