Rowan and wife Permelia moved from Greene County, GA. to Morgan County around 1924. R. W. Copelan is listed in the Morgan County Tax Digest in 1924-1932 in District 397 (Seats), which is the Brownwood Community. In 1934 they were listed as Mrs. R. W. Copelan in District 400 (Hello), which apparently was a re-designation of the Brownwood Community. In 1935 Mrs. R. W. Copelan is again listed there, with the notation "dead." According to his granddaughter Ivor Copelan-Doggett, she used to go for walks with him during those years along Brownwood Road (then a dirt road), and she said that he liked to participate in the singing at church, and became pretty good at it, although he never sang in the choir. Rowan and Permelia often visited Ivor Copelan's family in the early thirties, and made the trips in a buggy or wagon (he owned both). He didn't own a car and Ivor couldn't recall seeing him even riding in one. Permelia was taller than Roe by about two inches, he being about 5' 8" and she 5' 10". When Permelia died in 1936, Roe moved in with Ivor's parents, William Alcestor and Nettie Baugh Copelan, at Fair Play near Rutledge. Their grave site had no marker until a double marker was installed there in 2004 by Rachel Lovern-Wiley, wife of their great grandson, Joe Wiley.
