Listed as a farmer in the 1850 Federal Census, District 148, Greene, GA; the slave schedule lists ten slaves, with one listed as a "fugitive from the state."
Listed as a farmer in the 1860 Federal Census, Greene, GA (indexed as Jasper N. Copelan); the slave schedule lists eighteen slaves, with one indicated as manumitted (freed); Jasper owned six slave houses.
