Notes:
This branch of the Copeland family often omitted the final "d" in the name, although it would occasionally appear on some documents, while some descendants reinstated it and used the name "Copeland" throughout.

2 APRIL 1796: Benjamin Riden & Claricy his wife of Oglethorpe Co. to Sukey Dossey Extx. and John Copeland Exor. of the last will & testament of Elias Dossey Dec'd for 30 pounds GA money, 80 a. in sd. county on waters of NKettle Cr.; part of a tract of land sold by the sheriff of Oglethorpe Co. by virtue of a fieri facias issued by Inferior Count of said county, Cordy Pate vs. Ferdinand Grisham, including the house and plantation where the said Suckey Dossey now lives ... (the rest unreadable). 5

The only Copelan listed in the available Georgia census information in 1800 was a John Copelan in Oglethorpe Co., GA, as follows: one male (John) over 45, five females aged 16-26, one female aged 26-45, one female over 45, and no slaves.

"This indenture made 28th day of December 1814 between Colson Copeland of the one part and the administrators of John Copeland lately deceased of the other part, all of aforesaid state and county.  For consideration in the sum of $500 paid by party of the other part, to them sold and conveyed a parcel of land lying on the Oconee adjoining Perry and others, measured by poles, chain, etc. containing 71 acres. /S/Colson Copeland by his mark.  Wit: Thomas Wood, Daniel Dossy, Gilley Moore JP.  John Bethune, Clerk.  Recorded 7 April 1815." 4

Nancy listed in the 1830 Federal Census, Greene, GA (indexed Nancy Copeland) age 50-60, with one male age 5-10, two males age 10-15, one male age 15-20, two females 20-30, four male and three female slaves.
