| Elias D. Copelan My great great grand uncle. Born: about 1811, Georgia. 1 Parents: JOHN COPELAN* AND NANCY DOSSEY* Married: 21 July 1834, Greene Co., GA. 2 Death: unknown. Notes: Undoubtedly the son of John Copelan and Nancy Dossey for several reasons, other than the fact that he lived in Greene County and was married there. He fits within the age of Nancy's children still with her in 1830. Although he isn't listed by name in the 1840 census, he does appear beginning with the 1850 census, meaning that he was probably in his mother's household until her death. He is also named after his grandfather, Elias Dossey, and he has a child named after his brother Jasper. Listed as a farmer in the 1850 Federal Census, District 137, Greene, GA (indexed Elias P. Copelan). Listed as a farmer in the 1860 Federal Census, Pike, GA; indicated born in 1808 and spouse in 1812; no children listed in the household. Listed as a farmer in the 1870 Federal Census, Pike, GA (indexed Elias Copeland); indicated born in 1804, spouse in 1815. Some researchers believe that his oldest son John is John Burton Copelan who married his cousin Anna Virginia Copelan, daughter of Jasper Newton Copelan. Spouse: JUDAY SANDERS b. about 1815, Georgia. 1 CHILDREN OF ELIAS D. COPELAN AND JUDAY SANDERS: (my first cousins three times removed) JOHN COPELAN b. about 1836, Georgia. 1 WILLIAM COPELAN b. about 1841, Georgia. 1 JASPER COPELAN b. about 1843, Georgia. 1 ELMYRA COPELAN b. about 1845, Georgia. 1 FRANCES COPELAN b. about 1848, Georgia. 1 Sources: 1. 1850 Federal Census, District 137, Greene, GA. 2.
