Rear Seat throttle quadrant

Here are some pictures of what I did with Van's rear seat throttle quadrant.

Van's standard rearseat quadrant option seems a bit cobbled together and requires either funny knees or a extra joint in the wrist. If the lever sticks out, it rubs an average kneecap, if the lever is hidden, you need the extra joint.

After some long thinking and measuring, herding my friends in and out of the back seat, I came up with a workable solution. I moved the top of the lever up, way up. Now, the knobs will sit in between the front seatback brace.

Not only that, but, I could install 2 or 3 levers if I had to. I decided on a 2 lever arrangement. I made a jig and stuck the lef side plate in the mill to machine out those curved slots. Then I made new levers out of 1/8 X 3/4 aluminum bar stock.

I measured the max throw of the front levers and calculated where to put the attach hole for the push-pull tubes to mount to the front quadrant. So far all seems to work out and line up okay.

Above are pictures of the Tall person's seatback brace, you can see also my solution for the rear throttle quadrant.

The really interesting part was to get the two tubes to realign with the throttle and prop control of the front quadrant. solved that with some trick linkage.

Here's a top view and a view from the rear, in the pictures above, as well as a behind view, below.
