Damascus Steel,  A Hobby of mine  I really learned to love.
Something you can build,  And it cannot be duplicated. every piece has it's own signiture
The possibilitys are endless with DQuestionsteel Patterns.  One can only dream of how a blade will look if metals are prepared right.
This site is kind of an almanac for begining knife makers, offers links on heat treating, metal definitions, forgemaking and forge tempetures  for working steels.  Show you  how cheap I am with  my home made power hammers, home made forge, home made belt grinder, home made cut off saw, home made hollow grinder, and much more.

This website was built by my father Ron Maurin, a self-taught blacksmith.
In February of 2005 my father
Ron passed away unexpectedly.
I would like to express my thanks to his many friends who have come forward share their kind words about my father and about the work he was doing. He enjoyed working with almost anything he ouched, but for many years he was consumed by the art of blacksmithing. He enjoyed finding new ways to do things, and he excelled at finding ways to do things others said could not be done. One of the many things my father taught me was that with a clever mind and a strong arm and a lot of work from both, nothing is impossible..
Ron also enjoyed sharing what he learned with others. A more selfless man I have never met.
You will see below his
plans for a power hammer. Though we searched for a long time we could not find a hammer anyone would sell, so undaunted my father said he would simply build his own. I thought he was crazy until I saw his finished model slamming away wildly a year or so later in his garage. He spent countless hours and countless dollars designing building testing and redesigning this project until he had it ready to use, but as soon as he realised he had something worthwhile, he posted his plans for others to share.
Thank you again all of you who have written to our family with kind words of condolance.
We all miss him terribly.
Especially those who wish to buy his rings!
I will attempt to continue my fathers work in this as soon as possible so stay tuned.
