Cable damascus is made by taking a piece of steel cable and removing the protecting coating such as galvanize or grease.
After the cable  is clean, take about three feet of cable and using an oxy/acyetline welder, weld the ends of the cable together to keep them from fraying later on in the process.
The the cable is heated up to a bright red-orange and doused with flux. I suggest doing this about six inches at a time. Once a section is full of flux, place one end in the vise and twist it until it squeezes the flux out.
Then hold it for a few seconds and place it back in the fire.
Repeat until the cable is a solid bar of steel.
Then fold or shape the steel as desired.
