How I got started in Damascus Steel, it was my son Mike who had been studying it, so we tried to make a knife we had a small homemade propane forge and Anvil, it was a lot of work.  We started with some 01 and 1018 and had enough to make a large knife if we would have had a power hammer, but it took so long drawing it out by hand we had a large pile of scale around the Anvil and a two inch knife blade. The blade had allot of flaws in it but it was enough to give me the Damascus Fever, I built a coke forge, and two power hammers they made things go allot better,
What I love about Damascus it can't be duplicated, and the possibilitys are endless as far as patterns, styls, combinations, and colors go, I've been playing with some new ones of my own plus all the traditional ones. Its got me hooked,  I even got a computer to do research on metals, Soon I hope to have a good Camera so I can show you my work.
