Spares List

We attempted to keep our list of spares minimal. Below is a list of the spares that we initially took with us. Below that is a running list of other spares that we needed to buy along the way.

Item Description
Fuel lift pump. Used on our first day of travel. We managed to buy another new one in Swakopmunt.
Diesel filters X 3 We will probably need more of these due to dodgy fuel in some countries.
Oil filter
Spare tyres x 3
Spare tubes x 3
Spare second hand alternator We replaced the alternator before leaving South Africa, and took the old alternator along.

A running list of spares we should have had:

Item Description
Clutch slave cylinder kit. We heard of a heap of people in Namibia who had problems with their clutch slave cylinders. We had to replace our entire cylinder halfway through Namibia.
Drive Members The drive members connect the rear wheels to the half-shafts, therefore converting the engine rotation to the wheels. It turns out that these are prone to stripping. We've had to replace two already and now have an extra two as spares.
Half Shafts As with the drive members, the half-shafts are prone to stripping and also breaking. This is particularily true of the longer shaft (the righthand on on our vehicle). We have replaced it once to date and now carry a spare.
