| Laptop |
The main reason for bring the laptop
along is so that we can make updates to this website and
upload the updates to the Internet when we get to an Internet
cafe. We will also hopefully be using the laptop in conjunction
with the GPS and electronic maps as a navigation device. |
| Digital Video Camera |
The video camera is capable of taking
digital still photographs as well. We'll be using this
function to show you all the various sites along the way.
|
| Camera |
Both of us have an SLR camera. We'll
be taking these along as well as the video camera, to
capture the scenery, people, etc. |
| Binoculars |
We are taking two sets of binoculars
along with us. We are hoping to be spending a fair amount
of time in the various National Parks along the way. |
| GPS |
We managed to buy a secondhand Garmin
GPS (II+ model). This will probably be most useful in
North Africa where the roads are pretty vague/nonexistent.
Better than an engineer and IT person attempting to navigate
through the Sahara Desert by the stars. |
| Fridge |
We also managed to buy a secondhand
camping fridge. It is a 40L stainless steel, generator
driven job. Big enough for beer and boerewors (sausage). |
| Ammo Boxes |
We've brought a bunch of old ammunition
boxes for stashing all the equipment. |
| Equipment Draws |
We have made up wooden draws for the
back of the Land Rover. They pull out the rear door and
can store a surprising amount of equipment. |
| Safe |
We've welded a small safe to the chassis
of the vehicle, for documents, etc. |
| Radio/Tape |
It is doubtful that at full roar of
the diesel engine we will be able to hear any music, but
perhaps some soothing Mozart playing at various scenic
campsites.... Hmm right.... |
