Description |
| Highlift Jack |
This has got it's own stand and will
be mounted along the side of the roofrack. |
| Hydraulic Jack |
Jack seems to be a fairly multi-purpose
guy to have on a trip like this. |
| Axe |
Needed to chop up plenty of dead wood
for evening fires and sundowners, after which we may need
the recovery equipment. See "Recovery Equipment"
below. |
| Shovel |
For digging Nyathi out of the mud...
or possibly ourselves? |
| Compressor |
Hopefully we won't have to pump up
too many tyres. |
| Sand Ladders |
These are made from cut-up rubber
joined by cable instead of the conventional aluminum ladders.
They are much more flexible this way. |
| Puncture Repair Kit |
Hmmm - not too much use of this hopefully. |
| Jerry Cans * 6 |
We only have a 90L fuel tank. This
gives us an extra 120 litres. |
| Recovery Equipment |
That's for the morning after... No,
in actual fact it includes all sorts of shackles, cables,
strapping, tree protectors, etc. |
| Hand Winch |
The handwinch can handle 4 tons. This
is not quite enough for the combination of the Land Rover
weight and the weight of the mud/sand. Will have to do
though. Hand winches don't come stronger and electric
winches are ridiculously expensive. |
| Spare wheels (wheel and
tyre) * 3 |
One on the bonnet, one
on the back door and one on the roofrack. Hopefully will
be enough to do the trick. If all else fails, we still
have the steering wheel. |
| Spotlights |
We've put on plenty of spots. Driving
in Africa involves wildlife, livestock and many humans
loitering on the roads. Hopefully we won't have too much
night driving, but... We have 2 sets of spots in the front
and a single spot at the rear of the vehicle. Who knows
when we'll get into a spot of bother. |
| Fire Extinguisher |
Not a happy thought, but just in case
Nyathi decides to protest in good old African style and
start burning something. |
