Political Cartoons 1983-84

Money for Nothing
When I attended Northwestern University during the early 80's I appoached the student-run paper about doing political cartoons for them.  I had always loved how a single image could summarize an event, and sometimes put a humorous twist to it.

My personal favorites came from two particularly good artists:  Greg Oliphant and Jeff MacNelly.  They were truly masters at this.  The following is my work from this brief career.  Each piece took about ten hours to complete, including any needed research.   Let me point out that this was the first time that I was actually paid for my artwork; a whopping $3 per illustration.

A political cartoon can make a powerful statement.  In the course of a few lines a subject matter of grave importance can be summarized. Some situations write themselves and show us how silly life can get.

Note:  No Political figures were harmed in the production of these cartoons.  Any resemblence to any figure dead (or undead) is purely coincidental..
