Zinnia

Botanical Name:   Zinnia Elegans

Native to Mexico and Central America, the genus Zinnia was named after Johann Gottfried Zinn, an eighteenth-century German botanist.
It is an Annual which can be grown in Ground or in Pots.
Seeding time: Seeding time starts from January after frost and lasts up to July.
Flowering time : Flower starts from February end and lasts upto August
Propagation: Zinnia  is grown from seeds, which can be directly sown into Pots or ground. Sow seeds and cover lightly with soil. Spacing depends upon size  miniature varieties spaced four to six inches apart, and Giant varieties one to two feet apart.
Care: Zinnia refers a rich, well drained soil in full sun. So add lot of compost. Pick dead blooms to keep the plants neat looking and to encourage new blooms. Once your Zinnia are established, they should grow well. Soil should be moist, but not wet. Improve appearance of Giant Zinnias by trimming back stems that have grown long or gangly, but do not over trim them.
Variety: Zinnia comes in many varieties and colors. Colors include, white, yellow, orange, red, rose, pink and multi-colored blooms. There are single and double varieties. Size of Plant ranges from about a foot for single to about three foot for giant varieties! You can select the color and size that is perfect for your flower garden. If you are planning a container garden, make sure to include some single zinnias.
