From about 12,000 feet elevation, when climbing the west face of
Mt. Shasta, Shastina's southern flanks rise constantly nearby to
keep you company on your ascent. The huge cone's steep slopes change
constantly with many small rock slides and avalanches etching verticle
lines down the mountain.
From this perspective you can see the degree of steepness of Shasta's
west face, and directly across from the camera stands Shastina's
summit pinnacle which stands above the southern rim of the volcano.
