Derry, County Derry
Six of the seven counties of the northern part of Ireland are occupied by Britain and are called Northern Ireland by the British.  The Irish call this area the North of Ireland.   To remain neutral, call it The North.   The people in any part of the country are not eager to discuss "The Troubles" as they are known, with outsiders.   If they want to discuss it, they will let you know.

Belfast City Hall
Derry Border
Contrary to popular belief, The North is completely safe for tourists.   Belfast is a vibrant and interesting city and is only about two hours from Dublin by train.  Point of Fact: the Titanic was built here.
