| The Final... Canterbury
defeated Otago 30-19... and The Badger takes The Jacket! |
| We have a new Champion of The
Jacket!! The Badger has calmly walked on in to his first ever
NPC PJTC and claimed the highest honours, stitching his name
into the ever-so-silky lining of The Jacket forever. Like
a consumate professional Badger stalked the leading pack
throughout the season and in the last round of the home and away
snuck through the gap and into the lead quietly and without
fanfare. It was like he'd always been there. The media
went into a feeding frenzy but Badger's management weren't going
to budge... the man still had tips to make and would not be
disturbed. And just as Canterbury predictably made their
way through the semis and the final, so did The Badger.
Congratulations Badger.
For the minor rankings, The Highlander has
"settled(?)" for Runner Up and the Home Sprint
Champion. This may be what he needed to fully recover from
last year's nightmare, or maybe he counted on an Otago tip from
The Badger, but until our experts have had time to analyse this
sudden acceptance of 2nd spot, we'll assume it was done in his
best longterm interests. Sly Slime probably did the only thing
he could, thinking that the two tips would be covered above him
he also tipped Canterbury and remains in 3rd place.
My good ol' sis, Bren Gun, comes in for Top Chick at a very
respectable 4th place... no longer a financial winner
since our patronising treatment of chicks was given a temporary
shakeup by our mother, The Ohopian.
Moose's regular transfers have finally picked him up a minor
victory, he will walk away with Top Foreigner and can begin to
make long term plans for future glory.
The final rankings on the ladder, in the case
of tipsters on equal points, will be updated later in the
week. Thankyou to
all the tipsters who participated, great comp, and thanks for
having patience through our numerous "technical"
problems. We will be taking a long hard look at ourselves
over the offseason and working on improvements. We hope to have you all back on the field for
the 2002 Super 12 PJTC, so until then please continue to use the
forum and don't let your tipping form go rusty. Take a
punt on anything in your domestic life. Thankyou once
again, you all make my life worth living. Good luck in the
offseason.

| Round Twelve... |
Only one game to go and it
looks like The Badger's got this all wrapped up, just as
clinically as Canterbury. The Ladders
are up. The Badger sits on top of it, 80 minutes away from glory
if everything goes as predicted. We have journalists
staking out some of his known safe houses so we may get that
interview later in the week. The Highlander has sneaked into 2nd
and first in the Home Sprint, Sly Slime
has slied his way into third, while Doon and Hedge made their
gutsy moves and paid the price. And the 97S12 Blouse, Bren
Gun, has shown what a comp-off can do for the heart and moved
into 4th. I've gotta admire her cos that's my sister.
Interresting that Otago supporters sit in 1st and 2nd, I wonder
who would possibly back Otago in this final.
Online tipping for the final should be up on Tuesday
night. Remember this is worth 8 points and you will also
be required to tip a winning margin. Just for the final
rankings.

| Feature
Interview...
|
| The Badger's management have put a
total media ban on him so we've decided to go to the tipster who
would know exactly how he must be feeling right now... the
tipster who led with 3 games remaining in last year's NPC... the
tipster who finished 4th in that comp... the tipster who was
forgotten for eternity... until now... The
Interview With The Highlander.

| Round Eleven...
|
| As you can tell, we're struggling
here... late updates, lack of previews, and now we find that we
completely hashed last week's round and had tipsters
"losing" points from Round 10. Hopefully the situation
has been sorted but I recommend everyone doing a manual count of
their points for both Round 10's ladder
and tips and Round 11's ladder
and tips. And get
back to me immediately if you find some inconsistencies.
This is really inexcusable and I think my head is firmly on the
chopping block this time. Of course I'm not gonna point
fingers until I've completed my book titled "He Did It, He
Sux, I'm An Ungrateful Whingeing Dickhead".
However, the points are finally in and we have
a new leader once again... The Badger has finally taken pole
position after following a well disciplined game plan throughout
the season. A very clinical approach to his NPC debut has
seen him hovering for sometime and he's timed his break to
perfection given that we have only 4 games remaining.
Hedge trails him by 2, Doon and The Highlander by 3...
interesting to see Highlander with the shoe on the other foot
this time... last year he ran into the finals a firm favourite
at the top of the ladder only to have all upsets conspire
against him... this year he looks bitter and vengeful and all
the better for it, sitting in 3rd equal.
Doon and Hedge lead the Home
Sprint with my mother, The Ohopian, proving that she may
have shaken the post championship hangover, close behind.
The Wellington vs Otago game was our big
decider and Otago's recent form sets up a tasty semifinal in
Albany. Of course the Sth Canty upset in the 3rd Division
final blocked 20 Clean Sweeps... with the consistently tin-arsed
Vornpuke the only tipster to tip it.
The promotion-relegation match between Bay of
Plenty and Hawkes Bay is this weekend so we've added it into the online tipping... remember it's worth 8 points,
basically being the most important game of the season for both
teams. There are no more Clean Sweeps and no more bonus
points for Close Losses.
|
| Round
Nine... |
| The ladders are updated. 27
Wild Cards played, and that's the last of them. And finally
a couple of Clean Sweeps... the first since Round One... but
these ones were biggies, 54 points, from The Highlander and
Doon, both of them catapulting up the ladder by playing Wild
Cards on those Sweeps. Highlander finds himself in 2nd
equal with Doon leaping into 6th on the main ladder and 1st
equal in the Sprint. And I thought Highlander was a
forgotten man after his sudden fade in last year's NPC.
Mupster from the UK has suddenly leapt into the top spot,
with a handy 6 point break. But it's looking like a
very close finish with 10 other tipsters within the 20... a
margin we can realistically treat with still having a chance
due to the number of Division One games remaining, along
with a couple of Shield games thrown in for good measure.
Remember that the semi finals are worth 6 points, and Clean
Sweep bonus points will still be awarded over the next
couple of rounds. |
| Round
Eight... |
The ladders
are now updated and Chip still maintains a healthy lead, but
has a bolter 10 points behind now... that's the rather
consistently bloody good Nicko from Oz. He pulled off the
high score for the round, while also playing his Wild Card.
Hedge also managed the high score of 44 pts and has set off
to a very strong lead in the Home
Sprint. At the bottom of the ladder it looks like
a 2 horse stumble with Team Brumbie and Hori Bop trailing
the rest of the field by what you'd expect to be too much of
a significant margin.
Note: Griff has been red carded for playing a 3rd
Wild Card. After one quick look at the video replay
the judiciary immediately slammed him with the Red and a
deduction of 4 points. Altho it was very probably a mistake,
examples will be made of tipsters who try this, and given
his experience it really was inexcusable.
Also Note: Remember this week is the last round to
play any outstanding Wild Cards you have in your pocket.
After that I think it gets a little confusing with Division
2 and 3 Semi Finals and Division One round robin. And if
anyone knows anything about when the relegation match(es?)
are played, please let us know so we can include it in the
online tipping. |
| Round
Six... |
| Once again, sorry for the late
update and ladder... it's surprising how long it takes to
make amends with the other half as a result of a traumatic
Wild Card weekend. And to think, I've still got
another one to play in the next few weeks. Turned out
to be a pretty good round for Wild Cards, but only 9 were
played. Chip from Wellington has hit the lead with a healthy
Wild Card, and quite a good lead it is too. He has a
16 pt lead over those also on 2 WCs, and a 41 pt lead over
those with a WC in hand. They're bunching up a
bit at the head of the 1 WCs... 4 of them within one game of
each other. Kahawai and GC Terminator were the high
scorers this round, with 46 pts, only denied a Sweep by the
draw, while reigning NPC champ Boyesee managed the low score
of 27. Anyway, the ladder
is now up. |
| Round
Five... |
| Update: I've had to
amend the ladder as Maddog had also played a Wild Card and
was therefore off his game as Treasurer. Ernie, NN11, and
FlameBoy have all had their Wild Cards returned.
30 Wild Cards played, and what a shocker!
I have to apologise for the lack of score updates, but when
you play your Wild Card your relationship is vulnerable.
When the Harbour Bunnies beat Canterbury, things start
getting tense, when Counties beat Otago!... it's getting
ugly, and when Southland!!... Southland!!!... Southland beat
Wellington... it's definitely on the rocks. So it was
a tough and very emotional weekend and I just didn't get
round to it. However, I've now managed to get the ladder
up, and we'll start talking to each other in the near
future. Maddog has resumed his lead by playing his 2nd Wild
Card, while Furrinher and Grumps have taken over Dogfood's
treasured position. Chip from Wellington managed the
high score for the weekend, with 42 pts, while Ale Water
displayed a shocker with his 20 pt low score...
unfortunately playing a Wild Card on that as well.
Dogfood has tin-arsed outa there with a Wild Card but I'm
sure it won't be the last we see of him.
NB: If you had a Wild Card rejected and you have
actually paid please contact
us with the details.
|
| Yellow Card
Time... |
| We've issued the second batch
of Yellow Cards to those who are yet to pay. These
could affect your final ranking, as well as the fact you
still can't play a Wild Card or receive Clean Sweep bonus
points. Important notice: 3 Yellow Cards
attracts an automatic deduction of 4 points... email Maddog
if you want to organise an alternative method of payment to
banking it. |
| Deleting
Tipsters... |
| We hate to do it, but if we
haven't heard from tipsters who have failed to tip for 3
rounds in a row, we will have to delete them from the
line-up... unless they've already paid. This just helps put
the ladder into perspective and gives us an idea of the
total kitty, and saves a lot of extra work. Please email
me if you're one of the following but you still want to
be in the comp, otherwise you will be deleted after this
round's deadline... Drought, Grumps, Norris Woodbine,
Shazza, Sly-dog, and Snowprincess. |
| Round
Four... |
| The ladder
is up and we have a new leader once again, OneB4. 16 Wild
Cards played, no Clean Sweeps of course. It was of
course warmly pointed out that Doon got the low score of 23
for the round, while Chip and Stench got the high score of
42. |
| Round
Three... |
| The ladder
is up... sorry for the delay. There wasn't actually
any technical problems... it was just that I found myself
7th to last and had to do some serious soul searching.
That's serious relegation territory so I'm either going to
have to postpone the introduction of that ridiculous idea or
buck up my tipping. We have a new leader... The Big
Kahuna, but that's due to the Wild Card he played. He
only has a 19 point lead over OneB4, who leads those yet to
play their first one. FlameBoy and Foghorn got the high
scores for the round... 44 pts each... both one win off a
Clean Sweep. Foghorn is our highest ranked Rookie,
Mupster from UK for the Foreigners, and BrenGun for the
Chicks. All meaningless accomplishments, but gives me
something to dribble on about at this early stage of the
comp. We've currently got 81 tipsters on the field, a
huge line-up for NPC comps, but it's early days yet so we'll
probably see a few wither out and disappear. Sometime
soon I'll do an indepth analysis of the field, mainly to
keep myself amused. 17 Tipsters failed to tip (13 of
them rookies... what can you read into that!). Then
again, they did better than I did with the 8 out of 12 away
victories. 2 Wild Cards played. Dogfood has also
stretched his hold on the Blouse to a 9 pt margin... could
it be his year at last?! |
| Round
Two... |
The round is over and the ladder
is up. The draw ended any chance of Clean Sweeps and
we now have Maddog leading the ladder for the first time
since late in the '99 NPC. Failing to tip wasn't as bad as
it could've been. And talking about
"failing", "dogfood" has managed to
settle into his familiar position at the bottom of the field
and holds a 7 point lead over any attempting to do
worse.
| Round
One... |
| The results are in and
we've got the ladder
up. Toogoolawah is currently leading the ladder on her
own, being the only tipster to pull off a brilliant
Clean Sweep. I haven't had a chance to analyse the
ladder yet, and it's early stages anyway. We've still
got to update the stats on the ladder and that'll come
later in the week. We should also be able to
provide the Tipsters' Tips graph and Hypothetical
Results by next week. Welcome to the field
everyone. |
