Cubs still cursed by Billy Goat, while Trevor still first on silly float

The championship drought continued for the Chicago Cubs last weekend with another playoff failure. Getting swept by the Arizona Diamondbacks guaranteed the Cubs at least 100 years between World Series titles. The Curse of the Billy Goat is alive and well on the north side of Chicago, thanks in part to Sweet Lou and the Zambrano debacle in Game 1.

At the same time, the championship route continued for Trevor with a masterful Week 5 in the Sunday Football Picks. His 11-2 record gave him the top spot in the overall standings for the fifth straight week. His celebrations were alive and well on the north side of Addison, or so they say.

Witnesses reported seeing Trevor whooping it up Sunday on a football float in the annual Founders' Day parade on Lake Street. They said he was pumping his fists in the air, proclaiming his dominance in some family football competition and waving a large Chicago Bears flag. It was so strange that spectators weren't sure what they were seeing.

"The boy appeared awfully excited, but I'm not exactly sure what he was celebrating," said one Addison resident. "He looked a lot like a kid I once saw on an Uncle Sam poster at my nephew's school. Seemed just as goofy, too."

According to parade officials, the football float was not registered for participation. It reportedly pulled up at the last minute and forced its way into the parade line with a lot of honking and fanfare. Miniature footballs were tossed into the crowd, small fireworks were illegally launched, and the boy performed a variety of dance moves while an EMF song blared "You're Unbelievable!"

"When it approached the reviewing stand, I didn't have anything in our parade script that described this crazy float, so I was at a loss for words," said QT Pie, a parade announcer and event organizer. "Then I recognized the cocky boy, and I shouted some fightin' words at him to let him know the war is on!"

Trevor denied ever appearing in Addison, or at any other suburban Chicago parade this month. But rumor has it that he was spotted whooping it up in the same boastful fashion on floats in Downers Grove, Itasca, Winfield and Yorkville.

"I don't own a large Chicago Bears flag, so that couldn't have been me," the 11-year-old said. "But I did make a great pick in choosing the Bears to beat the undefeated Packers. Rex Grossman is an awesome cheerleader on the sidelines."

With Week 5 being "Pick Like Pa Week," Trevor's 11-2 performance was the best possible record. Picks members were required to predict five upsets, and only three underdogs prevailed, giving everyone a minimum of two losses. The Teenage Bird was right on Trevor's heels with a 10-3 record, and she sits perched in second place just three games back.
