Happy 15th birthday! Ali steals spotlight from Trevor, and Larry KingThe anticipation was just too great. After counting down to her birthday for weeks, Ali apparently couldn't wait one more day and gave herself an early birthday present on Sunday. Her 11-4 record in Week 11 of the Sunday Football Picks edged Trevor by one game and put her into first place in the overall standings. Never before has Ali been king of the hill -- or should we say frosting on the cake -- this late in a Picks season. "The spotlight really belongs on me if we're talking about a true King of the hill," said legendary broadcaster Larry King, 74, who also was born Nov. 19. "I'm old enough to be Ali's great-grandfather for heaven's sake, so I clearly deserve it more." Sorry, Larry. With a record of 96-51, Ali was bouncing off the walls and dancing in the streets on Monday. Of course that's because she turned 15 with her twin sister Nicki, celebrating a birthday with many famous personalities such as actress Meg Ryan, designer Calvin Klein, sportscaster Ahmad Rashad, entrepreneur Ted Turner, actress Jodie Foster and Olympic gold medalist Kerri Strug. "You do know who I am, right?" Larry King said. "I've been broadcasting for more than 50 years, and every night you can tune in to Larry King Live on CNN." Pipe down, old fart. Ali won three of five disagreements with Trevor on Sunday to knock her younger cousin out of first place for the first time this season. Trevor has been a force to be reckoned with in 2007, putting together one of the best runs in recent memory. The last time a Picks member held first place for the first 10 weeks of a season was in 2003, when his dad Mark never relinquished the lead and won the title. "That's a great accomplishment, too, but getting back to me, many people don't even celebrate birthdays when they're my age because they're already dead," King interrupted. "How many successful television stars do you see in their 70s?" Butt out, geezer. Ali has never won a Picks championship, so she is just six weeks away from popping the champagne, or perhaps the sparkling grape juice. Trevor, who's the only other Picks member currently in contention, will surely have something to say about that. "Before he does, can I just add that I've interviewed many of the biggest stars and newsmakers on the planet?" King interjected. "I could probably buy this Picks Central gig and make myself the focus of all the silly stories. What about that?" Not for sale, Mr. Moneybags. Be sure to stay tuned to Picks Central -- not Larry King Live -- to see how this exciting race plays out! |
