New treasure hunting skills have D.J. digging for first-place Picks gold

On Saturday, D.J. learned the ropes of treasure hunting while flying around the back of a van that was hurtling down streets and around corners on two wheels. It's a frame of mind that only serious treasure hunters understand. Move fast, think faster and yield to no one. Deej helped the K-Team place third among 13 vans in the CSTH.

The next day, D.J. focused her new skills on the Picks treasure hunt -- a battle for first-place gold -- and she achieved the same success. She jumped into third place in the standings after besting her rivals with an impressive 12-3 record. Deej is now just two games behind the 29-14 marks of Trevor and QT.

Sunday's brilliant performance in the Picks was a blast from the past for the 2002 champion, who has been fairly quiet since her title run. But D.J. appears to be a quick study in treasure hunting, so her assault on the 2007 Picks title could now become a ferocious one. Who would have thought that figuring out how to make maracas out of toilet paper rolls, beans and rubber bands would translate into figuring the winless Eagles would shake up the unbeaten Lions? Apparently there's a crazy connection for D.J. since a group hunt is the method of operation in both cases. Being stoned on NyQuil didn't seem to hurt, either.

A look back at Girlie's Picks championship five years ago reveals striking similarities to her performance so far this season. One could be led to believe the same scenario is playing out that will lead to her second Picks crown. In both seasons, D.J. won 12 games in Week 3 and had exactly 27 victories at this juncture. And just like in 2002, her Mom was barely ahead of her and clinging to first place in the Picks standings.

The possibility of D.J. experiencing Deja Vu later this year is a certainty, regardless of whether QT surrenders first place in the Picks. That's because she's going to use her Six Flags season pass to attend Fright Fest at Great America. Deja Vu, if operating of course, is one of the must-rides during a day of big thrills at the Gurnee theme park. It's nearly as wild as flying around the back of a speeding van.
