Panagyurishte is located 42 km north of District city of Pazardjik and 90 km east of Bulgarian capital – Sofia. The town lies in Panagyurishte valley, in the south slopes of Central Sredna Gora at 683 m elevation above the sea level. A river called Luda Yana (left affluent of
Maritsa river) crosses the town.
Resident population is 22 087 people.
Large part of residential buildings was erected
in XIX century and represented development of the local
mountain asymmetric type. More of the houses stand in the middle of large
yards - gardens, fenced round with high stonewalls.
