 Parents Handbook - Our Season

Bottom line, it's long - and seems to get longer every year. In a nutshell, it looks like this:
  • Enrollment - hopefully done by the end of June to satisfy league requirements for rosters and game scheduling, but also to allow us the time we need during the summer for administration - budgeting, jersey and shell orders, fundraising, USA Hockey & CPIHL information requirements, and new parent orientation top the list. Our program ad fundraiser helps makes summer an extremely busy time, since it coincides with baseball and family vacations.
  • Preseason Practice - no team will be very successful if they throw an inexperienced team on the ice in their first game, and hockey skating uses muscles in different ways than any other sport. Our off-ice conditioning program (land practice) starts just after Labor Day - and it still doesn't seem to start early enough, especially for our developmental teams. This is the time of the year that our coaches start building a cohesive team environment for our players. Player participation is mandatory and your support is critical, for obvious reasons.
  • The Season - runs from September through March. The Varsity game schedule typically begins in early November (to avoid conflicts with high school football schedules) and runs into early February, followed by post-season play. JV and Junior High schedules usually begin in late September and run into early February. The JV & Jr High teams typically see less-desirable game slot times, and sometimes see large gaps between games.
  • Post Season - a time for most folks to forget hockey and think about spring activities, but also the time of the year that a newly-elected Board sets everything up for the coming season. In a word, it's busy. Please be especially patient and considerate of our volunteers at this time - remember, they have families (and jobs - and a reasonable expectation to enjoy part of the summer) too!
