Saturday, September 16, 2000 - Dr. P was again on call during the day. He didn't come in and check on me at all. However, I did not care. The nurses were wonderful and did their best to do everything they could for me. I was informed that I would be having the c-section the next day. My contractions had for the most part stopped so there was no hurry. I had been given injections Friday and Saturday to help mature Sydneys lungs. Dr. M came and visited us. He informed us he was the neonatologist and that he would be the one in the operating room for Sydney. He was so nice. He asked what we wanted to do after Sydney was born, and we told
him that we wanted everything possible done for her. He agreed and said he would do his best. That evening I was finally seen by a doctor. Dr. W came in and told us that the c-section was in fact scheduled for the next day. She said Dr. P would be there, but if I wanted then she could stay over and also be in the room. I told her that was exactly what I wanted if she didnt mind. She said that was fine and she would be there for me.

Earlier that day, Brian and I had been told that we could take a tour of the Special Care Nursery where Sydney would be. We decided to go around 9:00 that night. The first thing we had to do was scrub our hands and put on a gown over our clothes. One of the nurses took us back to a little room that had three tiny babies in incubators. How sad. One of the babies was actually a fairly good size but he was having trouble breathing on his own. The other two babies were premature and seemed so small. One of the babies was around 29wks gestation and I just kept looking at her thinking that was what Sydney was going to look like, only smaller. My heart went out to these babies and what they were going through. The nurses were wonderful with them. They talked to them and treated them like people instead of like just another patient. I knew Sydney would be well taken care of there. When we got back to the room, Brian got out the camcorder and we recorded messages to Sydney. We also took a few last pictures of my belly. I didnt think I would get much sleep that night but that was actually the best sleep I had gotten since I was there. Since we knew Sydney would be born the next day, the monitors had been removed.
