The "Tysse" village is located on the north-west side of "Osteroey" and is facing a roomy bay which is an extension of "Osterfjorden". A river that used to carry a large volume of water is dividing the village in two halves. Today this river has been redirected and ends up at the "Tysse Power Plant". The village is surrounded by several mountains. Towards the southwest is "Liae" and towards the southeast is "Heldalsfjellet". On the east side of the village we find "Husafjellet" and "Olteighoeyen" and to the north
is "Loetane". Towards the south
the landscape opens up when
passing through "Tyssedalen".
We can see a wide area of
forest and several lakes.
Towards the northwest is the
"Osterfjord" where we can see
across the fjord towards
"Molvik" and further on towards
"Tvuvberget" and "Radoey".
Numerous industries have been
and still are located at "Tysse".
"Tysse Mill", see center of the
picture, started producing rolled oats of very high quality in 1907. Later machines were set up to "flake off" and grind rise. From then on rolled oats and rise were the main products. The mill later expanded their product range into products like bouillon extract, mussels, tee made from juniper, converting animal bones and waste from slaughtering of farm animals into bone flour, and at one point they also produced plates from "styropor". Prior to the mill being sold to "Norakonsernet" in 1993, the mill also produced "havrekli". Other known industry at "Tysse" is "Tysse Mekaniske Verksted". This company produces telescopic sliding ladders, flag poles, and a space frame used for drying of wet cloths. Later they started production of the well known saw for cutting of logs "Tysse-saga". Today the "Tyssetilhengeren", a trailer for cars produced in various sizes and outfitted for different purposes, is the main product. "Tysse Mekaniske" is today one of the largest companies of its kind in Norway. People living at "Tysse" and visitors to this village have a short distance to go to get to the mountains, forests, and other beautiful parts of the nature that is surrounding the village. One of the hiking trails paralleling the pipe rack to the "Tysse Powerplant" has stairs containing 652 steps.
