"Fotlandsvaag" is located on the northwestern end of Osteroey and is surrounded by mountains on all sides. As you drive by "Selvika-Borleite" and make the turns down "Herdlandsvingene" the "Fotlandsvaag" is a beautiful sight.
As seen from the first road turn at the top of the hill, we have a wonderful view of "Fotlandsvaagen" (far left
on the picture). The fjord is in
the background and "Herlands-
vannet" in the middle
surrounded by farms bearing
the names; "Herland", "Fotland",
"Straumane", "Herlandsnes",
and "Herlandslid". On the west
side is the mountain named
"Brattlia" having its mountaintop
at 590m above sea level.
"Brattlia" causes the sun to
disappear from downtown
"Fotlandsvaag" for several
weeks during the winter months. In the center of "Fotlandsvaag" there is a mansion built back in the 1850's. Prior to year 1900, this mansion was clearly a reminder to the regular person on the street about the big world residing outside of Osteroey. In 1975 the mansion was renamed "Fjordslottet". For many years this building functioned as a "camp ground school", but is now used for weddings, family gatherings, confirmation celebrations, etc.
