ENGLISH STUDIES CENTRE OF MONEMVASIA, Greece

We are a small private language school in Monemvasia, Laconia in the southern Peloponnese of Greece. It is famous for its fortress castle in the middle of the Aegean sea connected to the mainland by a bridge. It is a very touristic site as many people all over the world come to visit the castle which is maybe one of the only medieval fortresses still inhabited in the world today.

Our school teaches English as a foreign language to the local children and above you will see pictures of our class. It is one of the smallest lower-intermediate classes in the school as there are only three students. Eleftherios B. is the boy on the left and he is twelve years old. He is in 6th grade in elementary school and his parents own a café-bar on the beach which they run as a family. Margaret K. is the girl in the middle. She is thirteen years old and she is in the first year of junior high school. Her parents run a pastry shop both in the fortress and in the village on the mainland. Her father makes honey and runs a small honey-bee business as well. The girl on the right is Mado M. Her father is the ex-mayor of the town. Both her parents work for the public school system.

EUGEN LOVINESCU HIGH SCHOOL, Bucharest, Romania

Our school was built in 1971. It is located in Bucharest, Romania and in 1990 it became Eugen Lovinescu High School. It has 3 buildings: one for the primary classes, one for the secondary ones and one for the Gym classes. We also have 3 computer labs, 2 foreign language labs and 2 libraries.

We do many special activities at our school. At the top of the list is the Comenius project. In 2000-2003 our school participated in a Comenius project together with other European schools from Portugal, France, Italy and Germany.

Apart from our ordinary classes, we can also choose to attend optional ones. Here are some of the optional classes we find extremely interesting and useful: The History of Maths, Let’s Play in English, Famous Places, Famous People, How to Make a Project etc.

Our school has a very good reputation among the schools in Bucharest as we regularly get very good results at the contests organized at different school subjects.

We are very fond of learning English, French and Portuguese.

Our school’s motto is: “Nothing solid can be done without enthusiasm and determination”. (Eugen Lovinescu)

PRIMARY  SCHOOL OSOVA BITYSKA, The Czech Republic

Our school is co-educational. There are about 200 pupils in 9 classrooms and 14 teachers. It is situated in a small village (about 900 inhabitants) in the Czech Republic.

Subjects which need special equipment are taught in special classrooms: a chemistry, biology and physics laboratory, a music room, an art room, a computer room. For teaching foreign languages we have a language lab. Our pupils can learn English and German there. Our IT lab is equipped with 12 computers and a printer. Our classrooms are equipped with audio-visual aids and video-recorders.

Behind the school building there is a small playground. Our pupils can play games there. In winter it is used as an ice-rink. The hallways are decorated with pictures, there are also notice-boards with some information from the school life. There are table tennis desks and pupils can play table tennis during their breaks there.

We take parts in some competitions. Our children are successful in German, English and sports.

It is a state school, so education is free of charge. The school year starts on 1st September and ends on 30th June of the following year. The school year is divided into 2 terms: from September to January and from February to June.
