3rd Sub-Junior Taekwondo championships commences
Aizawl Oct 14 :The 3rd Mizoram sub-junior Taekwondo championships, organised jointly by the Hrawva School and the Mizoram Amateur Taekwondo Association was inaugurated today by the Sports minister Rualchhina at the Central Hall, Venghlui.
The minister urged the participants to set examples through sports and studies and reminded of the many benefits that could be obtained through sports.
Rualchhina also said he was glad Mizos had taken to such sports that had hitherto been known only by name. He said not only do Mizos participate in these sports, but are becoming famous through them.
356 participants from 19 clubs are participating in the championships which conclude on Tuesday.
The best 35 sportspersons in the championships will receive scholarships, 5 of which will be the national level scholarships of Rs 7200 a year and 30 the state level scholarships of Rs 5400 a year.
The president of the MATA is former Mizoram chief secretary Lal Fakzuala, IAS.
Seminar on Mizo literature held
Aizawl Oct 14 :A seminar on Mizo literature was held today at the Vanapa Hall under the aegis of the Mizo Academy of Letters.
The seminar today discussed a paper entitled "Zotawng Ziahdan Thlirhona" written by C Chhuanvawra which in English means discussion on the written form of the Mizo language.
The topic dealt with the grammer, syntax and syllables of the Mizo language.
According to Mizo Academy of Letters president Lalthangfala Sailo, the Academy is looking for ways to have a uniform way of writing the Mizo language which at present is different from person to person and institution to institution.
The Academy plans to have more seminars of this kind in the future in which opinions of learned persons will be collected to be collated for later use and reference.
Cancer Detection Machine dedicated to God
Aizawl Oct 14 :The Synod Moderator S Lalkhuma today dedicated to God the new Cancer Detection Machine installed at the Durtlang Presbyterian Church Hospital.
This machine had been commissioned in September 12, 2002 and used for detecting cancer through biopsy. Cancer is detected almost at once through this machine.
